Introduction to vulcanized rubber uses:
Let us we will discuss about uses of vulcanized rubber. The vulcanized rubber is contains about 32 percent sulphur. The cross-linking of the isoprene spirals is attained to such an extent that vulcanite has practically no elasticity. Thus, vulcanite is tough, high abrasion-resistant, can be moulded, sawn, drilled and polished. It has extremely good electrical insulation properties. The level of severity of vulcanized rubber depends on the amount of sulphar added.

More about vulcanized rubber
- To pick up the properties of rubber, it is compounded with various chemicals like sulphur, hydrogen sulphide, benzoyl chloride, etc.
- Most important is addition of sulphur.
- The process consists in heating the raw rubber with sulphur to 100-104° combines chemically at the double bonds of different rubber springs.
- Vulcanization thus serves to stiffen the material by a variety of anchoring and accordingly, prevent intermolecular strain group of rubber springs.
- The coverage of stiffness of vulcanized rubber depends on the quantity of sulphar added.
- For example, a tyre rubber may contain 3 to 5% sulphar, but a battery case rubber may contain as much as 30% sulphur.
Uses of vulcanized rubber
- The vulcanized rubber has good quality tensile power and extensible, when a tensile vigor is applied can bear a load of 2000kg/cm previous to it break.
- vulcanized rubber has excellent resilience.
- Possesses low water-absorption predisposition.
- Vulcanized has useful temperature range of -40 to 100°C.
- The vulcanized rubber is uses in the insulating coating on wires and cables, uses of vulcanized rubber in electrical power transmission and in electrician gloves.
- The vulcainzed rubber is uses in the building rubber bands, mechanical rubber goods, printing rollers, tubes for automobiles, aero planes and bicycles.
- The vulcanized rubber is uses for making bicycle, automobiles and aeroplane tyres, shoe heads and soles, conveyor belts, shock absorbers, mounting for heavy machineries and automobile parts.
- It is used for rubber-lined metal tanks and vessels, used in chemical industry, where corrosive chemicals are to be processed.
- Rubber hoses are also used for water conduction for gardening, fire-fighting, etc.
